The following scholarship applications are either available in the College/Career Center or are available at the listed websites. Please read the criteria and deadline for each scholarship that interests you carefully. Leave your scholarship list with your choices checked off, in the scholarship organizer on my desk.  The applications or information that you have chosen will be available for you to pick up later that day in the same organizer. If you have any questions, or need further assistance please see the College/Career Center. TIPS FOR APPLYING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS:

  1. Read the eligibility requirements carefully, along with the deadline requirements.
  2. Get a brag sheet from the College/Career Center, fill it out and give it to teachers, counselors, or anyone who may be writing a letter of recommendation for you. The earlier the better! Most scholarships require two to three letters.
  3. Some scholarships will require an essay or personal statement. Keep several copies for future scholarships.
  4. Organize your applications, your parent’s financial information (including tax forms), your test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and anything else that is requested.
  5. Follow instructions to the letter, and make sure that your application is legible. Proofread your application, or have someone do it for you, and also make copies for your records.
  6. The College/Career Center is available to students from 7 AM – 4 PM daily if you need assistance.

Kiwanis Club of Burbank

The Burbank Kiwanis Club will grant a scholarship of $1000 to students selected from each of Burbank, Burroughs, and Monterey High Schools and the Burbank Adult School. The award will be presented to students who seek to obtain vocational of skills training beyond high school.

 

April 26, 2010

Burbank Teachers Association

The Burbank Teachers Association will award a $1000 scholarship for students who want to become teachers.

 

April 26, 2010 to the Career Center

Burbank Emblem Club

The Burbank Emblem Club is again offering three scholarships, of at least $500.00 each to deserving students from Burbank high schools. The applications will be judged by the following criteria:

Financial Need and Scholastic Achievement. At least one of the scholarships will be restricted to the medical field. The medical field includes nurses, doctors, medical technicians and therapists. They are especially interested in helping those interested in pursuing a career in nursing. The other field will be in general studies.

Burbank Police Officers Foundation “Matthew Pavelka Memorial Scholarship”

To award graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding effort to pursue a vocational goal, dedicate themselves thoroughly and responsibly towards their education or training, and to encourage students to strive for excellence and distinction in whatever they undertake. Applicants must be graduating from Bell-Jeff, Burbank High, John Burroughs, Monterey, or Providence High School, or a current or retired member’s dependent. You must be planning to attend a four-year college or university in the fall.

 

April 30, 2010 to the Career Center

Eleanor Childers Vocational Education

Burbank Council PTA will award one scholarship in the amount of $500.00 to a deserving student who wishes to continue his or her education in a trade or vocational school. The applicant must have attended a school in the Burbank Unified School District one year prior to application. The selection of the award will be financial need, grades, seriousness of purpose, and character.

Southern California Gas Company

Applicants must be graduating seniors of accredited public or private high schools. They must plan to enter an accredited vocational/technical school, or accredited two-year or four-year college or university. Students must enroll full-time beginning Fall semester of 2010. Must have GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate community involvement. Student must demonstrate financial need for the award. Scholarships from $500-1000.

Burbank High School Law Dog

The Burbank High School Mock Trial Club/Law Dogs is offering a scholarship to all seniors who have participated in Mock Trial for at least one year. Three awards will be given of varying amounts. Applicants must be planning to continue their education and to be enrolled at a vocational school, 2-year of 4-year college, or university.

Lila Ashley Barnett- Debney Family Memorial Scholarship

The Lila Ashley Barnett-Debney Family Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts will award a $1500 scholarship to an outstanding senior student in the performing arts form Burbank High School. Applicants must be planning on attending a college or university in the fall semester of 2010, and furthering their education in any area of the performing arts. Must have average of 2.5 GPA or higher.

Foothill Civitan Club Scholarship

The Foothill Civitan Club of Burbank is offering a scholarship award to a student at Burbank High School. Student must be a senior graduating from BHS and entering college this calendar year. Must have attended BHS for at least two years immediately prior to graduation.

American Fire Sprinkler Association

Enter this contest for an opportunity to win 1 of 10 $2000.00 scholarships. Open to high school seniors in the U.S. who are citizens, or legal residents. All you have to do is read the “Fire Sprinkler Essay” about automatic fire sprinklers, and then take a ten question multiple choice test. For each question answered correctly, students will receive one entry into a drawing for the ten scholarships.

Jack & Jill of America, INC. 2010 Scholarship

The San Fernando Valley Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, INC. 2010 Scholarship Program offers three $2,000 awards to outstanding African American Seniors entering an accredited 4-year university of college directly from high school. Each award will be paid directly to the university upon verification of each recipient’s enrollment by the Office of Registrar. Eligible individuals need to be enrolled in a college or university on a full time basis.

San Fernando Valley Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, INC.

The scholarship program offers two $500.00 award to African American Seniors with an established Autism, Asperger Syndrom, Dow Syndrome or Developmental Delay diagnosis. Candidates must matriculate to an accredited 4-year college of university or 2-year vocational/technical school or trade school directly from high school.

Must be ethnically Armenian-American attending a public school. Must be a high school senior, have a grade point average on at least 3.0, be active within both their community and school and plan on attending a University or College.

CAERP is offering two $500 scholarship at the 34th Annual Training Conference scheduled Jun 15-18, 2010. The Earl Sullaway Memorial Award of Achievement is presented to students who have served as a role model and leader in the school and community.
